Are Money plants really considered as money plants?
money
Do not let the title mess you, the money plant is not actually The Money Plant. I mean the label given to the plant as money plant is not actually money plant. And yeah, I am talking about Pothos, normal or golden or mixed ( green and white ). Wanna know more about Pothos?
Pothos
Pothos or Epipremnum aureum as its scientific name and is often known as Devils Ivy is from the family Araceae. It is a houseplant, indoor or outdoor, that is relatively easy to grow just like aloe vera. It does not need constant monitoring and watering intervals as it can surive waterless for weeks. It comes in dark green, golden green or green with white dots sprinkled around. It is a pretty popular plant in Indian households. Mainly because a lot of people consider it as money plant in spirtual reference that its existence would result in good financial status. However I would not touch on whether it is true or not, but I can assure one thing that it is the wrong plant to be termed as money plant. People have been beleiving in this misconception for years and they still do, including me until I watched it online that it is npt. They are normal climbers that spread like an ivy without any support thus Devils Ivy. Leaving them just like that without proper pattern to climb will leave them to grow such, that they will become a mess to remove.LightPothos generally prefer medium sunlight, that is morning to noon sun, but not deep noon sun as it can burn the leaves. Too much of shade can also mess with the plant growth But the cool thing is, their true color and patterns come out while they are placed in direct sunlight. So a proper placement would be east facing where it can receive the complete morning sun and thrive.Watering As many Araceaes this plant also wants its soil to dry out completely, it will indicate if the leaves turn brown that it is completely dried out, also too much of watering will make the leaves turn yellow and often become delicate and droop quickly. So as I always recommend with all the plants, checking the soil if it is dry or moist and then watering will keep the plant in a good position.
