My Experience with the Foxtail Fern
fern
The Foxtail ferns are literally one of the oldest plants that lived way before dinosaurs, probably from a million years. I studied about this in LIFE ON EARTH by David Attenborough. Its scientific name is Asparagus aethiopicus. The plant is evergreen, meaning the leaves stay green the entire season and retain most of its foliage as green in springs and summers as it gets a lot of sunlight then. The plant also blossoms which was a bit surprising to me at first, because of the shape and size of the leaves as they are like spikes, I never thought it would have blossoms. But the blossoms are really cute. In this blog, I will show you guys my special capture of this plant.
Growth

The plants growth cycle is relatively easy in my opinion. As all outdoor plants that thrive in direct sunlight, be it morning or afternoon, ferns too are of the same kind. Infact it is strictly recommended to place ferns in a place where it gets lots of sunlight. And also you will not notice burning of leaves for the most part, atleast I did not. As it is winter while I am writing this article, the plant goes to dormancy. Other than watering when dried, I should not add any fertilizer at this point.
Blooms

Fern blooms are really cute. If you do not know that foxtail fern blooms, then most probably you would not even notice it. I didnot at the first place, I was of the impression that the plant might have gotten a few pests, until I saw clearly to remove them. I was really surprised and that there were tiny flowers which had their pollens coming out, looked really cool to me. So I took a picture as I always do. Ferns blossom generally a lot during summer to monsoon, as their growth is at full pace during those seasons.
My Foxtail Fern currently

Foxtail Fern to me has been a very easy to grow plant. But it does need lots of water everyday to stay moist as it absorbs tons of sunlight. Also foxtail ferns grow really quick, althought they do look really beautiful and astounding, which they are, they need to be observed carefully for repotting. Because the roots start coming out of the soil and also become dry really quick. This indicates that the plant needs to be repotted. So the blue pot you saw in the pic is the one in which I recently repotted it. I placed it outside as the place I live in is east facing , so the plant would receive good amount of morning sunlight.
